Link building is a very important form of self-promotion
on the Web and is an ongoing process.
Think of link building as your chance to build your reputation on the Web. Consider link building to be a primary business-building exercise. Just don't make the mistake of believing it will result in instant gratification. Successful link building efforts require a long-term commitment, not an overnight or turnkey solution. You need to continually invest time in link building efforts.
Start by finding appropriate specialty directories to add your site to by visiting the Internet Search Engine Database (ISEDB).
Google Caffeine is the name given to Google's next
ranking algorithm update going live after the holidays. It seems Google
Caffeine will be more than a regular update. It will probably be a major
overhaul of the calculations Google uses to rank Web pages.
It looks like the following factors may play a larger role in Google's site ranking:
Web Site Speed: If your site is slow loading it might not get high rankings on Google. This is one reason we've always discouraged clients requesting music playing in the background of their site; it dramatically slows the loading of the site.
Broken Links: If your site contains many broken links it may have a negative impact of the position of your Web pages in Google search results. Now is the time to go through your site and check each link. Let us know if you have any dead links and want them deleted.
Bad Neighborhoods: Linking to known spammers and getting a lot of links from known spammers isn't good for your rankings in Google's current algorithm. The negative impact of a bad neighborhood will probably be even worse with Google Caffeine. You'd have to double your efforts and visit the sites of potential link partners to try and make sure their link page is not full of non-industry related links.
Over-all Site Quality: Google's new algorithm probably will take a closer look at the over-all quality of your site. This should help professionally designed sites move up in the rankings above sites designed "by my grandson who's a whiz with computers."
Help these folks by visiting their site. All ya'll will remember how hard it is to get those initial "hits" so the search engines notice your site. So take a minute and visit their site.
