By way of thanks, during the next month all our client's Web sites will be resubmitted to the major search engines and directories as ranked by Alexa and listed below:

We hope the added exposure on these search engines/directories will increase the number of visitors to your site.

Google Increases its Index

Google claims it has increased the size of its index to nearly double its previous size. According to the tag line on the Google search home page, they are now boasting 8,058,044,651 web pages indexed.

Tracking a few benchmark sites does, in fact, show that the number in listings for these sites has just about doubled. Although the index has increased in size, there doesn't appear to be any immediate change in their ranking algorithm.

With that said, many predict that the increase in the index size is in preparation for changes to their ranking algorithm. The "florida" update is still fresh on the minds of many, as well as its impact on the holiday shopping season. Could we see a repeat this year? Not very likely. One thing is certain. -An algorithm change will come sooner or later.

Beware of Phishers

Phishers (pronounced fishers) typically send spam purporting to be from a legitimate business, asking recipients to go online to manage accounts or take care of problems. For example, one piece of spam allegedly from Citibank asked recipients to verify their e-mail addresses.

When unwary Citibank customers clicked on the link in the e-mail, however, they were taken to a look-alike site operated by the scamsters. At this phony site, they were asked to fill out a form with personal information including credit card numbers, social security numbers, account passwords and PIN numbers. The goal of the scam is identity theft.

HUEY Productions advises clients never to click on a link in an unsolicited e-mail. The problem, though, is that phishing scams target large companies with lots of customers who may not see the e-mail as unsolicited. With this latest sneaky refinement, it's better not to click on links in e-mails at all.

Other Scammers

We've been receiving notification that money has been sent using out PayPal account. It's a scam, but the e-mail looks like:

Congratulations! PayPal has successfully charged $175 to your credit card. Your order tracking number is A866DEC0, and your item will be shipped within three business days.

To see details please click this link.

DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE VIA EMAIL! This email is being sent by an automated message system and the reply will not be received.

Thank you for using PayPal.

The way we detect if it's valid or not is by right (NOT left) clicking on the link and selecting view source. Scan the source code and find the LINK word that you're supposed to click on and the address it goes to will be there also. In this case the address was NOT PayPal but some other jerk that was just after my username and password at PayPal.

If you ever have any question as to the validity of an e-mail you receive, you may always forward it to us and get our opinion. We've been on the Internet since 1980 (yes...1980) and have seen just about all the scams at one time or another.
