Recycling Printer Ink Cartridges
As many
of you know, I train guide dogs for the blind. The school I volunteer
with is
Guide Dogs
of Texas. They are collecting printer ink cartridges
for recycling and fund raising.
Click HERE to read more about their project. Before you throw out that empty ink
cartridge, please give me a call and I'll come pick it up for
recycling by Guide Dogs of Texas. If you are one of our many clients
not fortunate enough to live in 'God's Country' you may mail the
cartridges to me and I'll discount the shipping charges from your
bill.
We
thank you in advance to taking the time to help with the worthwhile
project.
Google Ranking Mess - Cont.
A
number of our clients were innocent bystanders caught in the onslaught
of sites dumped in the Google Florida update (Google's November
ranking update). Many folks lost their hard-earned ranking, even
though their site did nothing "wrong". Many Web sites that followed Google's
rules for optimization to the letter were still caught up in the
carnage. Unfortunately, many businesses were devastated by these
changes, especially heading into the holiday months.
What to
do? As difficult as it may have been to make sense of Google's
changes, for many, the simplest course of action was to simply do
nothing. Since the update, many sites that were exiled to search
engine Siberia have returned to nearly their former ranking, shaken
but intact. From all appearances, Google simply changed their
algorithm and may not have gotten it quite right. Additional "tweaks"
subsequent to the Florida update seem to have brought some sanity back
to their results.
Hosting With Us
We've completed moving a
majority of our clients over to our own server. If your site was due
to be migrated to our server, you should have received notification in
the mail about this. One big advantage to having your site hosted with
us is the ability to have secure forms (the little gold lock) on your
site. Internet surfers have gotten more sophisticated and know to look
for the little gold lock before giving sensitive information such as a
credit card number. If your site has a form that asks a visitor to
give sensitive information, drop us an e-mail and we'll put your site
in the work queue to have that page converted to a secure page.
Yahoo! Starts New Search Engine
Yahoo is rolling out a
brand new search engine, with its own index and ranking mechanisms,
casting aside its long-standing use of Google-powered search results.
The move is the beginning of a progressive rollout that will take
place over the next few weeks. It is also the beginning of numerous
planned enhancements focusing on web search, personalization and
vertical search.
The actual results
returned by Google and Yahoo depends on the query. Those of you who
lost good position on Google back in November also lost position on
Yahoo! because their results came from Google. Now that has changed
and there's hope that quality sites will regain their good position on
Yahoo!.
