In This Issue:
Random Free Hosting Site
We'd like to
congratulate
Das Garten Haus for being the winner
of this month's free hosting site. At the beginning of each month we
will call up our own site's homepage. Whomever's site is the featured
site when the page loads will get FREE hosting of one domain for one
month. It's just our way of saying thank you.
Don't
Waste Your Visitors
Every visitor coming to
your site is hard-earned - so don't 'waste' them. You want them to
return time and time again. This will ensure the number of visitors to
your site increases over time, rather than remaining static.
First, ensure your site doesn't scare visitors away. Make sure it easy
to use, easy to navigate, visually appealing, and treat critical
e-mails you may receive from visitors from time to time like gold.
While not all criticisms are valid representations of how the majority
of visitors see your site, some of these e-mails may help you turn
your business around if you listen in a positive manner instead of
reacting negatively and defensively.
Secondly, try to subscribe as many visitors as possible to a list, so
you may correspond with them time and time again. Sending them news
about your site for example will keep them coming back. Send out
periodic newsletter, have a recipe of the month on your site, periodic
helpful tip, etc.
Remember, only about 1% of the visitors
to your site will consummate a sale, make a reservation, etc. You've
got to work a little to keep the number of visitors to your site
increasing steadily.
Guard Against Internet Scams
Online scams trying to
trick consumers into divulging personal information via fraudulent
e-mails or Web sites are constantly attacking us. Phishing (pronounced
fishing) schemes use bogus e-mails appearing to come from legitimate
sources. We get numerous calls each month from folks wanting to know
if such-and-such e-mail is legitimate. Most of the time it's painfully
obvious. When they ask us if the e-mail they received about updating
their E-bay account is real, we ask them if they have an E-bay
account. Most often the answer is no. Welp folks, if you don't have an
E-bay account then it's a good bet the e-mail is just phishing for
personal information.
How do you know if you're being
targeted? Watch out for:
-
E-mails urging you to act quickly
because your account may be suspended or closed
-
E-mails requesting account numbers,
passwords, or other personal information
-
Unfamiliar links in any suspicious
e-mail directing you to a Web site's login screen.
