Are You Having Problems
Sending E-mail?
Boy am I glad I'm not a
'server dude'. The guys trying to maintain Internet and e-mail servers
are working tirelessly trying to keep the servers up and running after
almost daily attacks. These attacks come in the form of viruses and
spam. For the e-mail servers, they are receiving millions of spam
e-mails, on an almost daily basis, which fills the server's hard drive
causing the e-mail system to stop working until the server dude
deletes the spam e-mails.
As a result of the frequency
of these million plus spam attacks, the e-mail server we have our
clients on has instituted security procedures.
All incoming mail will have to pass through
mailgw2.texxa.net or mailgw3.texxa.net (two
security servers at Texxa Internet Services). One of the more
noticeable effects will be the rejection of all mail previously
relayed through mail.texxa.net, meaning that
OUTGOING mail from our clients that DON'T
have a Texxa connection will need to be handled differently.
|
Nothing will change
at all for folks using a Texxa connection (have
Texxa.net as their ISP). You have Texxa
as your ISP if you connect to the Internet through them or your
personal e-mail address ends in @texxa.net . |
For those of you connected to
the Internet by a local ISP other than Texxa.net,
you'll have to set
your outgoing mail server to
your local ISP. Please
contact your local ISP for assistance in making those settings on your e-mail
program. You'll still be able to retrieve mail normally -
that will not change.
If all of this is too much 'Geek Speak' for you,
just call us at 830-997-9686 and we'll try to help you.
We Us A Spam Filter
Just a reminder that our office uses two spam
filters in tandem to filter out the more than 500 unwanted e-mails we
get a day. A small portion of normal client e-mails gets caught
in our spam filter. Usually there is no problem and we can spot them,
but we need your help. Always provide a subject
to your e-mails. If an e-mail has no subject we automatically have it
deleted. Descriptive subject lines will help us
immensely. Instead of using a subject line that says "Update",
it would help us greatly if you'd make the subject line something
like, "Update - Your Business Name". (Substituting "Your Business
Name" for the actual name of your business.)
As always, if you have sent us a work request and
haven't heard back from us, in say a week, please pick up the phone
and call us at 830-997-9686 and check that your work request actually
made it into our inbox.
