Random Free Hosting Site
We'd like to
congratulate Ivytx for being the winner
of this month's free hosting site. At the beginning of each month we
will call up our own site's homepage. Whomever's site is the featured
site when the page loads will get FREE hosting of one domain for one
month. It's just our way of saying thank you.
Google
Local
Do a google for your
site's number one keyword phrase (such as Fredericksburg TX bed and
breakfast). At the top of the search results page will (most likely)
be the "Local business results for..." map with three listings shown.
Is your business one of them? No, then click on "More results near..."
and see if your business is listed.
To get your site listed you'll have to
have a free Google account.
If your site is listed and you'd like to
increasing the rank position your site is it, it'll take some work
which will be well worth it. The ranking of the sites on the local map
is determined by an algorithm considering location (your don't have
much control over that), number of reviews, review rating (number of
stars), and other factors. The fastest way to increase your site's
ranking is to get as many persons to complete a review with each
giving you the maximum number of stars. For instance, if you're an
innkeeper you should be giving each guest leaving your inn a little
slip of paper (with instructions) asking for them to submit a review
of their stay.
Check it out, learn what it takes to
submit a review, and then get to work on raising your site's ranking
on Google's Local Business Listing.
Wording Of
Links INTO Your Site Critical
Google puts a lot of weight on one element of their ranking algorithm;
Link Popularity (the number of links INTO your site from other Web
sites). But not all links INTO your site are counted. Not only must
they be from an industry related site, but now Google
has decided it's essential there be some correlation
between what YOU say your site is about, and what OTHERS say
your site is about. Google does this by analyzing the words in the Link
Title on all links pointing to your site. Bottom line here is - if a
keyword phrase does NOT appear on links to your site, you're not going
to
rank well for that phrase!
For many established sites, this is the main reason they might have
experienced a noticeable decline in rankings in the last few months.
Most older sites will have a majority of incoming links based on their
business name, and NOT on their activities / products / services /
location etc.
An example may help. A link from another
site to an accommodations site called Der Stall will receive no credit
if the inbound Link Title says "Der Stall". For Google to give them
Link Popularity credit, their inbound Link Title should say "Der Stall
Bed and Breakfast" or even "gooderer"..."Der Stall Bed and Breakfast
Fredericksburg TX".
Check who is linked into your site by
entering "link:YOURDOMAINNAME" into Google's search block. If you find
a link into your site that doesn't also include the industry you're
in, send the site owner an e-mail and ask to have your link edited.
